Use this page whenever a lesson introduces an unfamiliar term. Definitions explain how the term is used inside this course.
Lagna / Ascendant
The Rashi rising on the eastern horizon at the chart time. In the North Indian chart it occupies fixed House 1.
लग्नBhava / House
One of twelve fixed life-topic positions in the chart. In this course D1 uses whole-sign houses.
भावRashi / Sign
One of the twelve zodiac signs. In a North Indian chart the large number 1–12 identifies the Rashi, not the house number.
राशिGraha
A planetary point used in Jyotish. This course uses Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu in the natal chart.
ग्रहBhavesh / House lord
The lord of the Rashi occupying a house. Because the Lagna changes, the lord of a given house can change from chart to chart.
भावेशDispositor
The ruler of the sign occupied by a planet. Its placement is another link in the reading chain.
राशि-स्वामी संदर्भDrishti / Aspect
A traditional relationship in which one graha casts an aspect toward another house or graha under a stated rule.
दृष्टिYuti / Conjunction
Two or more grahas occupying the same sign/house in the whole-sign teaching model. Exact degree separation is a separate detail.
युतिDignity
A sign-based condition such as exalted, debilitated or own sign. It is one piece of evidence, not a complete verdict.
ग्रह-स्थिति / ग्रह-बल की श्रेणीUchcha / Neecha
Traditional exaltation and debilitation conditions, including exact deep-exaltation/debilitation points used by some calculations.
उच्च / नीचNakshatra
One of 27 sidereal lunar mansions, each spanning 13°20′. It is derived from exact longitude.
नक्षत्रPada
One quarter of a Nakshatra, spanning 3°20′. Each Pada maps to a Navamsha sign.
पादVarga
A divisional mapping derived from the natal longitude, such as D9 Navamsha or D10 Dashamsha. It does not replace D1.

The ninth divisional chart, derived from exact natal longitude and used as a refinement layer in this course.

The tenth divisional chart used in the career practicum as a refinement of the D1 professional structure.

A structural condition in which a graha occupies the same Rashi in D1 and D9.

योगVimshottari Dasha
A 120-year timing framework whose birth Mahadasha is determined from the Moon’s Nakshatra.
विंशोत्तरी दशाMahadasha
The major period in the Vimshottari sequence.
महादशाAntardasha
A sub-period inside a Mahadasha, following the same nine-lord sequence.

A graha’s calculated position for another date/time, compared with the natal chart.
गोचरBAV / Bhinnashtakavarga
A raw Ashtakavarga row for one planet, built from eight contributors.
BAV / भिन्नाष्टकवर्गSAV / Sarvashtakavarga
The sign-wise sum of the seven planetary BAV rows in the raw Ashtakavarga system.
SAV / सर्वाष्टकवर्गShadbala
A six-component planetary-strength system. The current site exposes only components that meet its validation threshold and labels the rest pending.

Units used in Shadbala; 60 Virupas = 1 Rupa.
विरूप / रूपAyanamsha
The offset used to convert tropical longitude to a sidereal zodiac framework. This course uses a Lahiri-based sidereal workflow.

Apparent backward motion of a planet as observed from Earth; shown as a calculated motion status.
वक्रीCombustion / Asta
A traditional condition based on angular proximity to the Sun. Different texts can use different orb conventions, so the site exposes a profile where implemented.
