How grahas are written inside the chart
Read planet abbreviations without confusing them with the Rashi number or the house position.
After you know the house and its Rashi, read the graha abbreviations written in that same compartment. A compartment may contain no graha, one graha or several grahas.
Common English abbreviations are Su (Sun), Mo (Moon), Ma (Mars), Me (Mercury), Ju (Jupiter), Ve (Venus), Sa (Saturn), Ra (Rahu) and Ke (Ketu). Our Hindi view uses short Devanagari labels.
The Rashi number belongs to the entire compartment; it is not attached to one specific planet. If House 10 contains Rashi 11 and shows Ma · Me · Sa, then Mars, Mercury and Saturn are all in Aquarius and all occupy the 10th whole-sign house.
Exact degrees are not reliably communicated by a tiny chart label, so our planet table gives the full sign degree, Nakshatra, Pada, house and retrograde/direct status. Use the diagram to orient yourself and the table for precision.
Multiple planets in one Rashi are a conjunction at the same-sign level used by this course, but you should still check their exact angular separation before assuming they are tightly conjunct.
Recognize graha abbreviations
How to read it
- Locate the fixed house position.
- Read the Rashi number in that position.
- Name the Rashi and its lord.
- Identify occupants and exact planet data.
- Explain the observation without predicting an event.

- The big number = Rashi.
- The compartment position = house.
- The letters/abbreviations = grahas.
- The detailed table = exact degree, Nakshatra, Pada and motion.
Do not skip the decoding step because a familiar planet or sign catches your eye. One isolated placement is not the whole chart.
